Raising awareness and informing people about their health rights
Raising people’s awareness of health issues with a view to acquiring individual skills and greater power to take action on their health and their rights is one of Santé Sud’s major areas of intervention.
Santé Sud aims to empower populations by providing individuals and communities with the information and skills they need to understand health issues, preventive health practices and treatment options.
Using methodologies such as the mobilisation of community relays and peer-to-peer work, local people are fully involved in the projects and in their own health.
Involving local people in the design and implementation of our projects is one of Santé Sud’s major objectives for the coming years.
To achieve this, all our projects are implemented in partnership with local associations, all committed to people’s right to health. From Rabat to Nouakchott, from Tunis to Antanarivo, Santé Sud is helping to empower associations of patients, healthcare professionals, defenders and activists of the right to health.
Prevention and health promotion activities are in line with the principle of proportionate universalism and aim to combat the various factors of discrimination and stigmatisation, by integrating a gender approach.
Making health accessible to all
At Santé Sud, we believe that everyone has the right to quality health care, without discrimination or barriers.
However, many people, particularly vulnerable groups, are not aware of their health rights. By raising their awareness and providing them with the tools they need, we help them to take control of their own health and build their resilience in the face of inequalities.
Why raise awareness of health rights ?
In many regions, health inequalities persist and are exacerbated by :
- Ignorance of fundamental rights to accessible, free or subsidised health services.
- Lack of confidence in health systems or health professionals.
- Discriminatory or exclusionary practices for certain population groups (women, children, minorities, rural populations).
- Insufficient listening and referral facilities.
Santé Sud works to break down these barriers and promote an inclusive vision of health, putting people at the centre of their own solutions.
